The Nicene Creed refers to God as “light from light”. Pope Francis teaches us that the Way of that Light is the Way of Faith — “It is precisely in contemplating Jesus‘ death that faith grows stronger and receives a dazzling light; then it is revealed as faith in Christ’s steadfast love for us, a love capable of embracing death to bring us salvation” (Lumen Fidei, # 16). In the Via Lucis as outlined in this book, we meditate on the various appearances of the Resurrected Jesus until his Ascension in which he showed his glory to the disciples awaiting the descent of the Spirit. In the process, like them, we cannot but experience a deepening of our faith, energizing us to look beyond ourselves, at our place in God’s universe.
